Netflix Animation Studios (NAS) “Hub” established at Siren Studios to create Series, Adult, and Feature animated content.

Klaus, directed by Sergio Pablos, launches as Netflix’s first original animated film. It is nominated for an Academy Award®, secures 7 Annie Awards, and wins the BAFTA Award for “Best Animated Film.”

I Lost My Body, directed by Jérémy Clapin, launches on Netflix after being acquired out of the 72nd Cannes Film Festival. It is nominated for an Academy Award®.

Over the Moon launches, the feature directorial debut of legendary animator Glen Keane. It goes on to be nominated for an Academy Award®, a Golden Globe, and 6 Annie Awards.

If Anything Happens I Love You (directed by Michael Govier & Will McCormack) launches, and later wins the Academy Award® for “Best Animated Short Film.”

The Mitchells vs. the Machines, directed by Mike Rianda, launches. It represents the first of many partnerships to come with Sony Pictures Animation. It goes on to be nominated for an Academy Award® and a BAFTA Award, in addition to sweeping all 8 Annie Awards categories it was nominated for.

Wish Dragon (directed by Chris Appelhans) and Vivo (directed by Kirk DeMicco, with music by Lin-Manuel Miranda) launches, continuing our partnership with Sony Pictures Animation.

Robin Robin, directed by Dan Ojari & Michael Please, and produced in partnership with Aardman Animations, launches later the same year and earns an Academy Award® nomination.

On February 1st, our Burbank studio opens its doors — a state-of-the-art facility that includes a theater, recording studios, review rooms, story rooms, and editorial suites to support all of Netflix’s in-house animated films.

The Sea Beast, directed by Chris Williams, and Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio both launch to critical acclaim, and go on to be nominated for Academy Awards®, with the latter securing NAS its first win.

Leo, directed by Robert Marianetti, Robert Smigel, and David Wachtenheim, and starring Adam Sandler, launches. It becomes the first Netflix animated character to be featured as a balloon in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!

Nimona, directed by Nick Bruno & Troy Quane and based on the acclaimed graphic novel by ND Stevenson, is brought to Netflix by Annapurna. It is nominated for 9 Annie Awards and wins 2, later earning an Academy Award® nomination as well.

Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, directed by Nick Park & Merlin Crossingham, is the sixth iteration in the beloved franchise and continues our partnership with Aardman Animations.

It wins the BAFTA Award for “Best Animated Film” and the inaugural category of “Best Children’s & Family Film,” and earns an Academy Award® nomination.

KPop Demon Hunters, directed by Maggie Kang & Chris Appelhans, and developed in partnership with Sony Pictures Animation, launches and becomes the most watched original animated film on Netflix to date.

The soundtrack takes the world by storm, crossing 1 billion streams in its first 25 days and earning the #1 spot on the Billboard Global 200 with “Golden.”
